Furthermore, several third-party apps that have their login credentials stored in iCloud Keychain are also vulnerable to unauthorized access.On the iPhone, it isn't necessarily an issue since the default auto-lock duration is quite short. That helps to mitigate the chances of someone else gaining access to your device. The process is the same on iOS and iPadOS.Step 1: Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad. Scroll down the screen, and then tap Touch ID & Passcode or Face ID & Passcode. Insert the passcode of your device to proceed.

Security Over Convenience

Turning off Touch ID/Face ID for password auto-filling does make the whole process of signing into sites and apps quick and painless. But whether you should or shouldn't get rid of this extra security largely depends on how you go about using your device.Once again, if you are diligent about not letting gaining unauthorized access to your iPhone or iPad, then there shouldn't be an issue.But if you are prone to leaving it around unlocked, or if you have highly sensitive login information stored within iCloud Keychain, then it's best that you keep the biometric security measure in place. It's just not worth the risk.

Set up Face ID

Before you set up Face ID, make sure that there isn't anything covering the TrueDepth camera or your face. Face ID is designed to work with glasses and contacts. You can't set up Face ID if anything is obstructing your nose and mouth, like a face mask. Face ID works best when your iPhone or iPad is approximately an arm’s length or closer (10-20 inches) from your face.

To set up Face ID:

After you set up Face ID, you can use it to unlock your iPhone or iPad. Here's how:

  1. Raise to wake or tap to wake your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Swipe up from the bottom of the Lock screen.
  3. If you're using an iPhone, hold it in portrait orientation, then glance at it. On iPad, you can hold it in either portrait or landscape orientation. If it's in landscape orientation, make sure that your finger isn't covering the TrueDepth camera. Then glance at the screen. If you're wearing a face mask that covers your mouth and nose, you'll be asked to enter your passcode automatically after swiping up.

To turn this feature on or off, go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode, then tap iPhone Unlock or iPad Unlock.

Use Face ID to make purchases

With Apple Pay

To use Face ID with Apple Pay, make sure that Apple Pay is set up on your iPhone or iPad and turned on in Settings > Face ID & Passcode. Then follow these steps.

You might be asked to enter your Apple ID password for the first purchase you make in the iTunes Store, App Store, or Book Store.
